Originally from Tennessee, I have lived in New Mexico, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Oregon, and Virginia. I majored in Math in college and then went on to study Civil and Environmental Engineering. While in grad school, I discovered a passion for teaching and coaching, which led me down a path away from engineering and towards high school teaching. It's the perfect combination of working with students and doing science - two of my favorite things.
Outside of school and work, I like to get outdoors. Previously a competitive Ultimate frisbee player, now I spend more time hiking and exploring the world. The picture on the left is me on a hike in the Retezat Mountains in Romania, from a trip in summer of 2011, and the picture above is of Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica, from 2013.
